The Swallow and the Crow
The Swallow and the Crow had an argument one day about their plumage.
Said the Swallow: "Just look at my bright and downy feathers. Your black stiff quills are not worth having. Why don't you dress better? Show a little pride!"
"Your feathers may do very well in spring," replied the Crow, "but—I don't remember ever having seen you around in winter, and that's when I enjoy myself most."
Author Q&A
1. When was the moment you knew you wanted to become an author?
For me I knew I wanted to tell stories from a very young age. I used to make up little towns and cartoon creatures that lived in them, drew comics, and would make home videos with my siblings. So I've always been writing little stories since I can remember one way or another, but I actively decided to pursue writing seriously in my late twenties.
2. What is the first thing you've ever written?
The first thing I ever wrote was a fantasy story, I know there was a volcano region, lava people and probably some kind of dragon, but the actual plot has been lost to the void.
3. Do you write strictly fantasy or other genres as well?
I have a deep love for fantasy but I write in other genres too, primarily horror but more broadly under the speculative fiction umbrella.
4. What is your biggest struggle and most amazing success so far in your author career?
My biggest struggle was just sitting and doing the thing. As someone with a full-time day job it can be really hard to find the time to balance writing outside of family time and other adulting things, but that brings me to my most amazing success being that I finished the first and second draft of my debut novel and successfully sent it off to be edited. Having a goal of some kind of publishing in the near future feels great.
5. Aside from having your story in the anthology, what are you currently working on?
Aside from the super amazing and wonderful Aesop's Fables Anthology I'm currently in the editing phase of my debut novel, a horror-fantasy. I'm also in the early stages of a southern-gothic horror and have a few short stories swimming around at all times.
6. Two truths and a lie!
I have never been on a rollercoaster.
I met Robin Williams.
I own at least one copy of every Pokémon card.
